The Petition would amend the Howard County Charter to require a super majority (4 votes out of 5) of the Howard County Council to raise the income, property and/or hotel tax.
As history has shown us, instead of reducing spending, government seeks new ways to increase revenue. In 2003, instead of reducing spending, Howard County increased the income tax to the maximum allowed by state law. In 2011, without this Charter amendment, Howard County will increase taxes!
In order to get this Charter amendment on the ballot in November, we need to submit 10,000 valid signatures of Howard County registered voters. The signatures must be submitted to the Howard County Board of Elections by August 9, 2010.
